True Americana is a personal project about adopting the classic 1950’s style of graphic design and it being utilized by and designed for a group of people who were gatekept out of it. These pieces speak on the fact there are very few black designers and there has historically always has been a lack of a black voice, recognization and appreciation in the design world. This absence is not only seen in graphic design history but American history, my goal with this series is to have my black story for all to listen and read. To experience black storytelling through the lens of my work as a designer.  To shake the hums of complacency for anyone who participates in my art and find a true reality, and understand that blackness is true americana.
